  • New Zylar® 631 targets applications in the household and healthcare industries
  • New Zylar® 631 excels with a well-balanced combination of product properties
INEOS Styrolution, the global leader in styrenics, today introduces a new member of its Zylar® family of MBS (“methyl methacrylate butadiene styrene”) materials. The new Zylar 631, rolled out to the markets in the Americas and in Asia-Pacific, has an excellent combination of product properties making it the material of choice for a range of household and healthcare applications.

Zylar 631 offers a good balance of stiffness and toughness. A medium impact strength grade that offers good surface hardness – without compromising on clarity. The appealing balance of product properties are a result of intense collaboration across the entire INEOS Styrolution innovation team including contributions from the K-Resin technology team (that was integrated into INEOS Styrolution in spring 2017).

Zylar 631 is more than a successor of the discontinued Zylar 670. While some customers only started their technical trials recently, many have already replaced the previously used Zylar 670 with the new material and commercialized their application based on the new Zylar 631.

In the Americas US FDA filing is completed, UL status HB 94B confirmed, Technical and Material safety data sheets are available and Zylar 631 is included into the Essential HD package¹. The material is the material of choice for a wide range of applications from pen barrels to tool handles and from drinkware to blender jars. It also excels in applications such as medical tray racks, syringe valves, vacuum cleaner parts, cosmetic packaging and toys – just to name a few.

“Zylar 631 has all it takes to be an absolute winner,” says Marty Spatz, Business Director, Transparent Specialties, Americas. “Quite a few customers that used competitive materials for their applications in the past, have switched or are about to switch to Zylar 631.”

Yohann Bach, Head of Business Management –Transparent, Asia-Pacific, shares the optimism of his American colleague: “The interest in the new Zylar 631 is high. I foresee a lot of new applications for the development pipeline with the excellent balance of properties offered by this new material.”

¹The Essential HD product package includes EU and US food contact statements, USP Class VI, ISO 10993 compliance and a Drug Master File (DMF). This can also be offered with a Notification of Change (NOC) term up to 12 months when signing a long-term supply contract.
