Frankfurt, Germany

  • INEOS Styrolution achieved a score of 65
  • The company is positioned in the top 3 percent of all companies evaluated by EcoVadis
  • Strong focus on ensuring the circularity of our products,  resource efficiency, reducing the carbon footprint and continuation of the zero pellet loss program

INEOS Styrolution, the global leader in styrenics, has been awarded “Gold” rating by EcoVadis, a global independent assessor of environmental and labor practices/ supplier sustainability. The rating is based on the implementation of the company’s sustainability program, CSR projects and the GRI report 2016 (published July 2017).

With this award, EcoVadis recognizes the continuous corporate social responsibility efforts at INEOS Styrolution across four themes – environment, labor practices, fair business practices and sustainability procurement.

INEOS Styrolution increased its score from 47 for the year 2014 to 59 for the year 2015 to 65 for the year 2016. This rating now places us best in class in the category of plastics manufacturers, and in the top 3 percent overall. The rating indicates that our engagement is at an advanced level, meaning that we have a structured and proactive CSR engagement with tangible actions on major issues and with a significant CSR reporting on actions, targets and KPIs.

The company has set sustainability targets for all focus areas of its business and continuously measures improvements against these targets. To name just a few, we have environmental targets for our main resources and emissions and for the development of end-of-life solutions.

In 2017, the increased score in environmental practices was significant due to the environmental processes and projects executed across all company sites. In addition, INEOS Styrolution works on several projects driving towards a circular economy for polystyrene. Partnerships with Agilyx and Pyrowave in the U.S. and the ResolVe project, co-funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, aim at recycling polystyrene post-consumer waste and a circular economy for polystyrene.

“An increase of 18 points to gold rating in just two years is a significant result. This demonstrates our commitment to higher transparency and continuous improvement and our seriousness implementing our programs,” comments Kevin McQuade, CEO INEOS Styrolution. “Every year, EcoVadis and other stakeholders raise the bar in terms of their expectations. We will strive to continue delivering responsible operations and sustainable product solutions, with a strong focus on both social and environmental aspects. Future focus areas will include ensuring circularity of our products, pellet loss reduction across the value chain, and a clear emphasis on greenhouse gas emissions and resource efficiency.”
