  • New collaboration will yield the first recycled ABS grades with mechanical properties on par with non-recycled ABS
  • Grades with up to 70% recycled content available now at commercial scale
  • Will pave the way for closed loop recycling and reduced plastic waste

INEOS Styrolution, the global leader in styrenics, today announces its collaboration with Austrian recycler bage plastics to produce high-quality ABS grades with up to 70% recycled content at commercial scale with immediate effect. INEOS Styrolution will integrate bage plastics’ post-consumer recycled electrical and electronic waste into state-of-the-art recycling ABS formulations.

This partnership brings together bage plastics’ high-quality ABS recyclates and first-class sorting technology with INEOS Styrolution’s manufacturing expertise and innovative capabilities to create the best recycled ABS grades.

The two companies have developed recipes to produce ABS recyclates of up to 70% without sacrificing product properties or performance when compared to virgin material. These recycled grades are now available in commercial quantities as a drop-in solution for customers

Sven Riechers, Vice President, Business Management, Standard Products EMEA, remarks: “We are pleased to see that the quality and performance of the recyclates provided by bage plastics fully meet the standards that we expect for our industry-leading products”.

“This collaboration will also take us closer to meeting INEOS’ target to incorporate at least at least 325 kilotonnes per annum of recycled material into its products”, he adds.

Philipp Baum, General Manager of bage plastics: “Both companies share a common vision to support a closed loop economy by maximising recycling and recovery of materials, minimising waste and reducing our impact on the environment, at the same time creating high-performance polymers to serve a broad range of industries and applications.
