The COVID-19 pandemic puts a significant additional burden on children with cancer and their families. To help them during these difficult times, INEOS Styrolution has donated €10,000 to the “Förderverein für krebskranke Kinde e.V.”[1] in Cologne, an association that is dedicated to helping families battling with cancer by sharing personal experience, advice and assistance.
The association also runs the “Elternhaus”, an environment near the child cancer ward that allows families to stay close to their child during therapy.
Marlene Merhar, Chairman of the association: “We are 100% dependent on donations. The donation is very welcome allowing us to cover the running costs of our Elternhaus with its 15 family apartments – especially now during the Coronavirus crisis that is expected to result in significantly losses of donations.”
Dominique Lebbe, INEOS Styrolution’s Site Director in Cologne, adds: “We are glad that the INEOS Community Fund enabled us to support this initiative, especially during the additional challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We admire the dedication of the members of the organization and their support of the local community.”
The £1m INEOS Community Fund was established by INEOS Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe in March 2020 in tandem with the company’s Covid-19 “Hands On” campaign, which set up new production lines to provide millions of bottles of free hand sanitiser per month to hospitals and frontline healthcare. The fund enables INEOS sites across the world to support the charitable organisations doing vital work in their local communities at this particularly difficult time.
